Cassie Brown is a talented ballet dancer. But she also revels in high jinks and exciting escapades so, when she wins a place at Redwood Ballet School, the strict rules do little to contain her intrepid nature. With her new friends Emily and Becky, the term begins with the traditional ingredients of a boarding school story: pillow fights, midnight feasts, tins of worms and exploring an old ruin by torchlight. Yet, in contrast, is the disciplined but privileged Cassie Brown is a talented ballet dancer. Yet, in contrast, is the disciplined but privileged world of Redwood Ballet School.
This is where Mal Lewis Jones uses her background as a ballet dancer to create a convincing story, as we join the girls in their daily routine of balancing endless hours of dancing classes with music and academic lessons. The characters are realistic too. This is a superb book for girls aged 8 to 10 years old who love adventures and dancing. Cassie at the Ballet School I absolutely loved this series when I was a child. I spent hours reading and rereading this book and imagining myself amongst Cassie and her friends.
